Introducing GMC Hummer EV

HUMMER-EV2

For now, the only powertrain available in the Hummer EV is a setup with three electric motors that make 1000 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard, and in our testing, the Hummer EV rocketed to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds thanks to its Watts to Freedom launch control driving mode.

HUMMER-EV1

The Hummer EV uses GM's new Ultium battery-pack technology and boasts an estimated 329 miles of driving range per charge. The Hummer uses an 800-volt electrical architecture with 350-kilowatt fast-charging capability which GMC claims will add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

HUMMER-EV3

The Hummer EV's interior design blends futuristic minimalism with industrial brutalism to match its purpose. The intersecting rectangular shapes and horizontal dash echo some exterior styling elements and the combination of black-and-white upholstery with bronze accents lends an air of chic opulence to match its price. Inside, several moon-inspired touches—such as a moon-boot footprint on the dead pedal and speaker grilles that show the Sea of Tranquility—serve as not-so-subtle reminders of GM's connection to NASA astronauts and the electrically powered Apollo 15 lunar rover that the company helped engineer.

Another segment exclusive is four-wheel steering that permits up to 10 degrees of rear-wheel steering—well up from the 3-4 degrees most such systems allow. At low speeds, 10 degrees of steering in the opposite direction of the front wheels tightens the truck's turning circle to a sedan-like 37.1 feet. Smaller rear-steering angles in the same direction as the front tires provide smoother lane changes at highway speeds. Steering up to the full 10 degrees in the same direction at very low speeds—a feature GMC calls CrabWalk—permits a diagonal driving direction and can help the Hummer EV clear off-road obstacles.
